Motorcyclist, 26, Killed In Hit-Run Crash Was From Mount Pocono

A 26-year-old motorcyclist from Mount Pocono was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Monroe County, authorities said.

The fatal crash occurred at about 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 on State Route 611 at Cayuga Drive in Coolbaugh Township. Bystanders reported a vehicle struck a motorcycle and fled the scene, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police. 

Anthony Giovanni Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.. 

Steven Rannie, 52, of Tobyhanna, was later charged with homicide by vehicle, drug possession and other charges, police said.

Anthony graduated from Pocono Mountain East High School, Swiftwater Class of 2016 and was employed as a driver at the Walmart Distribution Center in Tobyhanna.  

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Yanac Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono.
